The Beat Surrender

I really like Roisin Murphy, not only does she bring her own unique sense of style to the table, but she also has one of those really distinctive vocals that immediately sets her apart from her peers.

Musically she has flitted between the cooler edges of dance, the more dance-pop efforts of someone like Kylie, or the quirky pop edge of Gwen Stefani. Her second album Overpowered is the home to the first track from this double A side, Movie Star.

Lyrically and vocally it’s up to the usual standard you would expect from a Murphy release, disappointingly though the music is a little sub standard. The other track is Slave To Love which while she does give a good account of herself, you still can’t help but compare it to Bryan Ferry and it does come up short to the original.
