Slashed Seat Affair - Noises
Slashed Seat Affair haven’t had the best time of things with this website, but that’s probably more down to the fact that they aren’t really my (or my reviewer that went to see them live) sort of thing.
One thing they have definitely got though is a resiliant character and a definite confidence in what they do. Having taken a bit of a maulling live, they’ve dusted themselves down, sent me the album to review and defied me not to like it.
Ok so I don’t, but that’s not really the issue here, a band that has confidence and belief to match playing and singing ability will have more chance than most. As for the album, well Noises despite the title doesn’t rock out enough for me, falling somewhere between a sort of gothic rock and pop, I can’t help but feel they would benefit from jumping headlong into either style rather than straddling between the two.
The one weapon they do posesss that they are truly blessed with is a really enigmatic frontwoman (Ellie Mules), captivating to look at she demands attention, singing wise she can certainly hit a variety of notes and could yet be the ace up their sleeve that gets them success that they genuinely do deserve, if not for attitude alone.
