Albino - One More Drink EP

London based Albino are fronted by Australia born Ben Tucker, a head hunter by profession (strange job title always imagine some taking orders for head and wandering around the street secretly measuring up the heads they pass, then somehow branding them a little like sheep to slaughter…. ) God I must stop eating cheese before I do these reviews….. Back to the review after all it’s what I’m here for, not disappearing on one of my mental daydreams.

However it must be said this is perfect daydream music. Slow and melodic with ever such a slight country influence. For me the highlight of the EP was the slightly jollier opening track One More Drink. I could relate to the lyrics, but for me musically it could have been a little raunchier just to grab the attention and hold it.

Lady Boredom had a bit of the eastern European feel about it with a few Hey Hey’s interspaced between the monotonous vocals but sadly not lifting it enough for me. Next track Misery Is The New Happiness, which while having a good catchy title lived up to its name; it was a bit miserable the only positive was the lovely use of the cello and violin.

Closing track Quorn, not an ode to pretend meat but written about Ben’s pilgrimage to his birthplace Podunk in South Austrialia and is actually the name of the transport depot. Personal but boring, overall nice to listen to, nothing offensive or off putting but equally nothing to write home about either. A somewhat middle of the road review for a somewhat middle of the road band I’m sad to say. Technically well played and put together but not different or interesting enough to lift it up a bit.
