The Darkness - One Way Ticket

Oh god here they come again. The jumpsuit wearing spandex rockers return with the first single from their second album due out on the 28th November.

One Way Ticket is spectacularly overdone as you would expect from The Darkness, it features the trademark sound of Justin ‘cats fighting in alleyways’ Hawkins high pitched wail, it features huge riffs and stupid solos and is a tribute to every long haired band of the eighties, i’ll give them an extra mark though for having the audacity to keep the joke going into a second album.

It also left me confused with the lyrics, because surely if you bought a one way ticket to hell and back, you wouldn’t be coming back would you? Wouldn’t that be a return ticket to hell and back?

Still what do I know, 1.5 million albums sold in the UK and an Ivor Novello Songwriters Of The Year award (do they just give them out randomly now?) they must be doing something right in somebody’s eyes.

The single is out now on Atlantic Records.
