Released as a limited editoin 7” single Politics And Cigarettes serves as a warning shot of what to expect from The Voom Blooms both on record and if you are lucky enough to catch them….what to expect from them as a live act.
Both the A-side and Thoughts Of Rena on the flip offer you an insight into the moody, exhilirating and powerful urgency that flows through the band, some people talk about being rock and roll, some people live it.
The story behind how they got their manager tells you everything…slicing his finger wide open with a can of corned beef the night before the gig supporting The Paddingtons he decided that the show must go on, so rather than taking himself off to hospital Craig (guitarist) made a self styled bandage and it was on with the show. Three chords in and his guitar, himself and anyone on the front row was covered in blood…but it was enough to impress The Paddingtons manager who promptly signed them up.
The single is out now through Fiction / Polydor.
