Mary J Blige - Reflections - A Retrospective

It’s fair to say that I wasn’t really much of a Mary J Blige fan until I met my current Mrs who worships her. Some of it has obviously sunk in though because I’ve now got a very healthy respect for the queen of hip hop and soul (TM).

She’s struggled through many problems and come out the other side and you only have to listen to her lyrics to know that she’s open about these problems (drugs, relationships etc). Her voice is her main strength though and it doesn’t matter if it’s the slower tracks like newie Reflections or the more upbeat numbers like I’m Goin Down and No More Drama, either way it shines through.

My favourite on here is one of the many collaborations that is featured on this 18 track best of, John Legend joins her on King & Queen and it’s a mesmerising meeting of two great soul voices.

The album is out now with a single MJB DA MVP on the 18th December.
