Eddie Halliday - Replaced By These Colours
Even if this isn’t your type of music and you end up disagreeing with my review, you really have to take your hat off to Eddie Halliday who has written, recorded and played the majority of everything on his second album Replaced By These Colours.
It’s got a dusty mountain range feel to the album and that’s no surprise really when you find the album was recorded in Argentina, it really hits the high points for me on two tracks that remind me of Grand Prix era Teenage Fanclub, the lovely Corners and the equally delightful Up, both of which combine a simple folk feel with some lovely melody.
When he goes for a rougher bluesy feel to the vocals it doesn’t always work, which is why it’s such a treat when he keeps it simple on Winters Coming where he opts for just an acoustic guitar and a basic, yet heartfelt vocal delivery.
A good solid album that will find a happy home with Fleet Foxes fans and the more folk orientated amongst you.
