Oskar - Rerun EP
Our good friends Oskar return with the first of a run of EPs scheduled for release this year. In between writing features for us and being interviewed it seems that Nick Powell and Johnny Dawe have actually squeezed in some time to record a host of fantastic new tracks.
First up on the Rerun EP is Lights: YEAH! which features the stunning vocals of one Astrid Williamson (she’s on the same label and is a friend of the bands), the track builds around a strange keyboard sound and quick percussion.
The second track, Episode One of One is a slightly more twisted (yes even by Oskar standards) track, veering from one direction to the other without ever really settling.
The third track made me smile because it reminded me of a film my dad watched once which was about a German U-Boat. All you heard for three hours was the sound of the submarine, thankfully this makes better use of the nuclear submarine noise they’ve sampled asnd builds it into the atmospheric, yet slightly claustrophonic track.
The album closes with The Soft Talker which is a rarther nice slice of progtronica (i’m having that copyrighted before the NME gets it grubby little hands on it), in keeping with the band it comes from way our in the leftfield and we love it.
