Ilya - Somerset EP
Bristolians Ilya return with the follow up album to their excellent debut They Died For Beauty on the 27th February. This three track EP (out now)features three songs from Somerset and you have to say that Virgin must be kicking themselves.
Shortly after the release of their first album they were released from their contract with the label (hence these being released on Universal Digital), since then though the album has slow burned its way through word of mouth into one of the essential late night listening albums.
Falling Everywhere is a fun and funky track, with dirty riffs, where as September Rendezvous and Juanita are closer to the territory of the first album with laidback jazzy breaks, sweeping orchestration and mellow, chilled out vocals. As an EP it isn’t going to sell due to airplay, but if you want a taster for the album this could be for you, if you are already a fan you might as well spend your cash on the long player.
