Karim Fanous - Sometimes

London based but born in Saudi Arabia, Karim Fanous has had some critical acclaim after releasing his debut album in 2007. The Album called Stir Crazy won him best singer/songwriter award at The Glasswerk New Music Awards in London.

If you read his myspaace site it would be difficult to imagine what his sound will be since he appears to be influenced from acts as diverse as James Brown to AC/AD, Bloc Party to En Vogue and Amy Winehouse to Paul Simon and even Rage Against the Machine, actually the list is pretty endless so perhaps he’s just trying not to offend anyone!

When listening to this track I have to say it reminded me of something my Mum and Dad would have made me listen to as a kid in the local working men’s club. Average vocals with that horrible plodding of the drums combined with pretty poor lyrics it didn’t impress. However this is only one track so perhaps I need to listen to more but since only sent the one it’s all I can comment on.
