Sugarush Beat Company - Sugarush Beat Company

RCA Records band Sugarush Beat Company release their self-titled debut album and despite the trio spanning three separate continents, they have produced a slick and modern urban album, with a hint of some of the great funk and soul music from the last 40 years.

That I’m saying it’s just a hint and not a shout in your face statement does give you an idea of where the album falls down, namely consistency. For every brilliant funk track like Oh Lord (Take Me Back) and the soulful style of Jesus Come Near, you get a mediocre track like They Said I Said.

If they can iron out these inconsistencies on the next album they could be onto a real winner, I’ve heard enough in their Prince grooves and 80’s funk rhythms to see some real potential here.
