Matt Costa - Sweet Thursday

Matt Costa suffers from comparisons to Jack Johnson, but then tha really is understandable. He’s got a similar style of music, he’s a similar age…oh yes and he’s signed to Jack Johnsons record label!

The comparisons should start and end with this track for me though (and i’m not a Jack Johnson fan, i’ll make that clear now). Where as JJ (not Jermaine Jenas in case anyone is wondering) has that ability to drag you into a song with the slightest lilt to his voice and a nice chorus Matt Costa comes over as slightly dreary.

Sweet September does pick up the pace towards the end of the song, but really by then it’s too late to be any song of note. A lifetime in his masters shadow is all I can see for him at the moment. The single is out now and is taken from his already released album Songs We Sing.
