Lavender Diamond - The Cavalry Of Light EP

Wow….this sounds nothing like I expected at all and never has a sort of cross between wailing and singing sounded so good, since the early days of a certain Kate Bush. That’s what hits you on first listen to the opening track on Cavalry Of Light EP, You Broke My Heart goes straight for the jugular. The song and the vocal builds and builds as it goes on, culminating in a majestic, sonic combination for the last minute.

Please is a far more reflective and quieter affair, In Heaven There Is No Heart goes back to the more high pitched singing style that you’ll get used to from Becky Stark (who makes up Lavender Diamond with her band), the sound is heavily influenced by 70’s British folk. The final track is Rise In The Springtime a far more twee affair which is exactly what I expected this whole EP to sound like.

A unique sound and a more than unique voice. The EP is out now through Rough Trade.
