Lovvers - Think
I saw Lovvers a few month back supporting Los Campesinos! and at the time I couldn’t see what all the fuss was about, for me they looked as if they couldn’t be arsed, everything seemed too forced and image driven rather than the songs actually having any substance to them.
Maybe though their debut album Think will wipe away those doubts and leave me feeling better about a band who are much tipped this year?
Well i’ve listened to this seven tracker now three times and i’m still not getting their appeal, yeah I see they are making a pure punk sound that wouldn’t be out of place from 1977 onwards, but really is this all they have to offer? I mean I don’t think people should fill out albums for the sake of it but this is 13 minutes of fairly dull punk that sounds stuck in a timewarp. I’m sure we’ve been down this route before in the 90’s…whatever happened to S*M*A*S*H and These Animal Men I wonder?
