Rob St John - Tipping In EP
Debut EP from Edinburgh based Rob St John who apparently doesn’t like comparisons to other artist. However without these it’s sometime difficult to get across exactly what the listener can expect but in the interest of not upsetting an artist here goes.
Tipping In is an EP of gentle soft folksy numbers the guitar is expertly played fitting in perfectly with the even softer almost whispered vocals. Opening track Tipping In starts with a beautiful intricate acoustic guitar, this guy can obviously play, the vocals are almost spoken; so quiet and gentle.
A Wooden Rose is equally well played and even has the unusual addition of a musical saw, you can never get enough of a musical saw. Last track The Acid Test is more of the same, very easy to listen to. If I had one criticism it would be that it would be nice for the tempo to change occasionally perhaps stepping up a notch. However really liked this, a great debut.
