The Beat Surrender

Christ knows why but like a book and it’s cover I can tell about an album (usually) from the artwork alone…I had a feeling I would like the Ancient Astronauts album, I just wasn’t aware how damn good it was going to be.

It really is my sort of hip hop album, one where the beats are put to the front of the queue and you get scratching, sampling and some brilliant instrumentation and vocal performances to compliment the studio wizardry.

Things start of quietly enough with the orchestral opening and then chilled beats of From The Sky, it’s a nice opening and is beautifully followed with I Came Running a blissful track that suits the current heatwave perfectly.

The album bursts into real life though with the first big vocal hip hop track, it features The Pharcyde and is as good as you would expect, a truly massive track. The album never looks back after that blending the more soulful (A Hole To Swallow Us), with head nodding hip hop tracks (Risin High), the downright funky (Everybody) and even reggae (All Of The Things You Do).

We Are To Answer by Ancient Astronauts is out now…superb stuff and a great album that holds together really well…very highly recommended.
