Terry Callier - Welcome Home

When I went to see Paul Weller earlier this year I thought that I had probably seen all the legendary music figures that are still alive, at least the ones that I wanted to capture live at any rate.

I had however not really given too much thought to Terry Callier and the prospect of seeing him live, until i’d heard this album from him. I’ve not heard his other live album so I can’t compare, but this concert recorded at his spiritual home in London is superb stuff.

As usual it mixes elements of soul, jazz and folk into one, with all the tracks being from albums released in the last ten years. You get the feeling from listening to this album that it’s a special occasion seeing him live. I for one am hoping to add myself to the lucky list of people that have seen him.

Welcome Home is out now through Mr Bongo.
