The Kabeedies

Very Creative (Claire Cameron)
Venturing back to what’s slowly becoming my regular watering hole, I’ve finally made the leap and rode into Leeds for the first time, struggling around a number of artics and wankers in soft top motors swanning round the city centre like its Miami.
Never mind, they can’t stop my child like enthusiasm for tonight’s gig, even done a bit of homework on The Kabeedies, and what I hear, I like, sexy little lady singer and quirky little numbers that should make tonight a night to remember.
Unfortunately, the night starts off for reasons that aren’t music related as such, offering my guns to assist in lifting one electric wheelchair up the stairs, no problem I hear you say! Like hell it is, as me and Mr Trotter struggle up the narrow steps managing to pull every muscle in our bodies that leaves me feeling that it would have been easier to give Rick Waller a piggy back.
A cold cider and a relaxing posture stance and im enjoying the local band This Many Girlfriends, who for a support act blow me away big time, big sound, plenty of structure and some great songs, especially I Should be a Communist and the homage that is to Paul Simon.
They’re that good that I wouldn’t be surprised that the next time I see them they’ll the headline band on the night, with their tubby little front man with the way too tight t-shirt, but with the voice of familiarity which you just cant put a finger on. Top Act.
So venturing outside for a smoke, thinking about the plus one that let me down again, the night gets even better when joint headliners These Ghosts totally eclipse everything that I thought small gigs should be, big credit to the soundman, but it shouldn’t be possible to create this kind of electrical storm in a room no bigger than my bedroom, but boy, do they do it.
A few technical issues and the frontman is urging us inbetween swapping guitars to check out their new album, bit of wit thrown in and lots of sweat as the temperature, sores, but its nights like these that make it worth while, you forget all them shit things and the letdowns and solely escape into the rhythm section.
Fellow Norwich pals the Kabeedies enter the fray, and what I’ve seen of them on Youtube doesn’t do them justice as the energy and rawness explodes into the crowd like a hungry Polar Bear on Seal Pup duties, they banter with each other and then offer false hope of naked frontladies, sadly nothing happens on this front.
Its packed in here now and big guys with cameras are falling over themselves to snap away, as Katie rocks out into the crowd, not in a bad mosher kind of way, but more in a party with the kids and unity kind of way. I like.
The night finally over I’m hoping my scooter is still outside after being approached by a tramp earlier that he’d keep an eye on it for a quid, a spring in my step and grin on my face, its been another ace night.
