It's a strange day, no colours no shapes, no sound in my head, I forget who I am, when i'm with you.

Metronomy Bristol

Ok, hands up this is going to be a little biased; I’ve already been to see Metronomy twice this year, and I obviously enjoyed both so much that I needed to see them again. I was even prepared to hang around outside and buy a ticket from a tout. Thankfully I didn’t need to; Kev came through with the amazing news that I’d definitely get to see them again.

However, I just wish my expectations – of the band and venue – weren’t so high. Metronomy were of course awesome, but my main niggle was the choice of tonight’s venue. Maybe it’s down to where I had to stand to watch the band – right on the sidelines next to the merchandise stall.

Along with this, the fact that I missed both support acts heightened my experience of watching others watch a gig... I just didn’t feel part of the evening. I also felt the venue, which on previous visits has lent itself well to guitar-led bands could have been given a more club-like makeover as tonight’s set was made up of a lot of tracks from the Night’s Out album and faster-paced tracks from The English Riveria.

Anyways, the music itself was still great; kicking their set off with We Broke Free, Metronomy gave us a very danceable set and even though I wasn’t amongst the sweaty crowd (it was stupidly hot, down to that freak heat wave) I still wanted to join in.

It seemed they knew my favourites, Love Underlined, Heartbreaker, The Bay, I’ve Got a Thing for You, The Look, On Dancefloors, Back on the Motorway and the encore of Radio Ladio.

With their t-shirt lights synching in time to the beats, and music which delivers addictive hooks over deep thought-provoking lyrics, Metronomy seem like a band who know have to fun – it certainly has a great effect on anyone who attends their gigs as I’m pretty sure everyone left smiling.
