The Foxes have had it tough, sleeping on friends' floors, starting their own label and driving a battered van. Check out a photo of them – they look pretty gruesome – pleasingly their music has beauty.
Maybe it's the unseasonable weather, but the enigmatically titled Depression, Joy and A Moment of Fame EP has a really bright, summery feel to it. Foxes have added acoustic guitars and vocal input from three member of the band to put together four excellent tracks.
'Get Me' is a strong, up-beat, knockabout opener and is followed by the star attraction 'Something About You' – a truly melancholic track - single material I think.
Next up 'Country Low' slowly builds to a mini crescendo – leaving the listener wanting more and 'No reply' is another track you'd be happy to sing-along to in the car, whether you were legally allowed to drive or not.
Very impressive – these lads have a bright future. To sum them up in one word – sprightly.
