Brit Award Nominations And Predictions 2008
The Brit Awards always throws up contentious choices and opens up debate, both with the nominations and the actual winners once they are announced. So I’m going to bravely throw my hat into the ring and not only predict who I think will win it and no doubt get them all wrong, but also who I would like to win it!
Now I’m pretty sure you’ll disagree with my choices so feel free to post your comments and let everyone know what you think.
British Male Solo Artist
Jamie T
Mark Ronson
Mika
Newton Faulkner
Richard Hawley
This one I’ve found quite hard as I do like three of the nominations in this category, I am however going to predict that Mika (god I hate that bloke) wins it, but I’d really like to see Jamie T collecting the statue.
British Female Solo Artist
Bat For Lashes
Kate Nash
KT Tunstall
Leona Lewis
PJ Harvey
This one is even harder for me because if you take the poodle that is Leona Lewis out of it it’s a very good set of artists. I’d love to see Natasha Khan striding onstage to collect the award under her Bat For Lashes guise, but I think if the judges can veer slightly away from the safe choice of Leona Lewis then it might be Kate Nash winning.
British Group
Arctic Monkeys
Editors
Girls Aloud
Kaiser Chiefs
Take That
Please Lord don’t let it be Take That winning this one! My prediction is for Leeds lads the Kaiser Chiefs to win it, although personally I’d like to see Editors get a bit of recognition and scoop this one.
British Album
Arctic Monkeys – Favourite Worst Nightmare
Leona Lewis – Spirit
Mark Ronson – Version
Mika – Life In Cartoon Motion
Take That – Beautiful World
It was a toss up between Mark Ronson and Arctic Monkeys for me as to which I’d want to win it and I’ll just edge the Arctic Monkeys on that one. As for who will win it I’ve a nasty feeling that because of how many it sold that Leona Lewis will win it.
British Breakthrough Act
Bat For Lashes
Kate Nash
Klaxons
Leona Lewis
Mika
Hardly cutting edge for a breakthrough award is it! So I’m throwing my not inconsiderable weight behind Bat For Lashes, but on the night I reckon it might be the overrated Klaxons stumbling up on stage.
British Live Act
Arctic Monkeys
Kaiser Chiefs
Klaxons
Muse
Take That
As much as I like Arctic Monkeys and Kaiser Chiefs it’s difficult to look much further than Muse. It’s made especially hard being as the government sneaked a law through about 3 or 4 years ago that says Muse must be nominated and win every single Best Live Act award be it the NME, Kerrang or indeed a Brit Award. Not wishing to break the law I’m going to say they deserve it and that they will win it.

Add to favouritesBritish Single
The Hoosiers – Worried About Ray
James Blunt – 1973
Kaiser Chiefs – Ruby
Kate Nash – Foundations
Leona Lewis – Bleeding Love
Mark Ronson – Valerie (feat Amy Winehouse)
Mika – Grace Kelly
Mutya Buena – Real Girl
Sugababes – About You Now
Take That – Shine
Yep we released hundreds of brilliant singles in the UK last year and this is the dross they come up with. It would be nice to see Kate Nash winning it for a brilliant single that really lit up last year. The smart money will be on the X-Factor winner again though, it’s Leona Lewis I reckon.
International Male Solo Artist
Bruce Springsteen
Kanye West
Rufus Wainwright
Timbaland
Michael Buble
Again what a terrible set of nominations! Still I’m going to predict that this one does go to the right person, so step forward Kanye West.
International Female Solo Artist
Alicia Keys
Bjork
Feist
Kylie Minogue
Rihanna
Feist has had an absolutely brilliant year with the release of her fantastic album The Reminder and I’d love to see her win it. If I was a betting man though my money would be going on Rihanna to pick it up.
International Group
Arcade Fire
Eagles
Foo Fighters
Kings Of Leon
The White Stripes
The heart is saying that Kings Of Leon would be very deserved winners in my opinion, however the head is saying they won’t win it. So we’ll go for the next best choice which is Foo Fighters.
International Album
Arcade Fire – Neon Bible
Eagles – Long Road Out Of Eden
Foo Fighters – Echoes, Silence, Patience, Grace
Kings Of Leon – Because Of The Times
Kylie Minogue – X
Again I’d like to see Kings Of Leon onstage making a slightly awkward speech, I have a feeling though that we could be in for the worst Brit Awards ever this year, so step forward The Eagles to collect this award
Outstanding Contribution Award
Paul McCartney
Now at least by having this award and announcing it upfront I at least get one category right in my predictions! Quite why it’s taken so damn long to honour him is a bit of a mystery, I suppose it was right that he waited his turn behind Eurythmics, Spice Girls and Duran Duran though who have all made far more telling contributions to music.
