So - That Nickelback…

…have had some dire singles out recently, haven’t they? There was that one about being a “Rockstar” which just went on and on – it is quite wordy, I’ll give them that (although we’ll come back to the lyrics later) – which had that cringe making ‘Ghost Of Rock’ muttering “So tell me what yer gonna do”, “So have a f*ckin’ sandwich”, “So blerr blerr ble-ble ble-ble blerrrrr“etc. Something like that – it was a poor attempt at something which failed, anyway.

I feel a lot less like wanting to be a rock star after sitting through this particular track, put it that way. Not to mention the relentless play the dull b*stard got over the airwaves – as if it’s a good song! It’s hardly The Beatles – you’ll not hear it again in a couple of years, mark my words.

Anyway, finally that one starts to fade from memory (occasionally you hear some saddo’s got it as a ring tone on the bus) – then along comes the latest effort.

This ‘song’ starts with the vocalist being sick on the microphone: “Bluuurgha this phodergraph” – which is immediately off putting. Next line: “Every time I do it makes me laugh” So now we’re listening to some p*ssed up college guy who’s getting all maudlin, going through his photo album, while we wish we were somewhere else. The song goes on (and on) about something or other (I just don’t want to know) until we reach the chorus which is something mumbled about saying “Good bye-eye, good bye-eye-eye”. Then we’re plunged back into the downward spiralling navel gazing.

I think basically he’s trying to say something about how time moves on and nothing remains the same. How mature – and wise. Please remove your head from your rear end and go bore somebody else. Take your simplistic couplets with your wedged in cheap rhymes and tell it to someone with a couple of spare sh*ts lying around.

And what on earth must these songs be like live? Folks must all stand around holding hands, nodding and sighing. Get some b*llocks, man – I’m off to see Motorhead.
