Argon 40
Back in March this year a fairly innocuous looking record landed on my doormat, it was by a relatively unknown band called Argon 40 and my expectations weren’t great for it if I’m honest.
As soon as the first track hit my stereo though I was hooked on this two track debut, so it’s great that we haven’t had to wait too long for a follow up double a-side release, due on the 13th July.
I managed to catch up with Adam, one half of the group, to find out a bit more about the forthcoming release and also what the future plans are for the band.
Your previous single When The Words Don’t Come / 44.66 Days was really well received over here, that must have given you a lot of confidence for future releases?
“Well it’s always encouraging when something is well received, but I try to focus my attention on the making of the music and not how it’s reviewed or accepted.”
Talking of which you have a new double a-side coming out on the 13th July, can you tell us a bit more about those two tracks please?
“Well Free Fallin’ was sort of a spur of the moment thing. I think I was listening to a classic rock station on satellite radio, heard the Petty track, and thought that the line free fallin’ with an ethereal treatment would really fit in with the other material we had happening at the time. Heather was into it so I threw the track together, she did the vox and it was a wrap.”
Now though you are based in New York, it seems musically that it’s the hippest place on earth, do you pick up that vibe being in amongst it all?
“Absolutely. The hipness just sticks to you when you walk the streets here.”
I understand you are planning on playing some UK dates, will they be your own gigs, support slots or at the festivals?
“We’ve no definite plans as of yet, but we’re open to any and all of those possibilities.”
Musically Argon 40 seems different to both of your previous experiences, how much of a leap of faith was it to put out tracks like these?
“Not much. We liked them. Our friends liked them. People we didn’t know liked them. We figured we’d share them with the masses.”

Add to favouritesHave you started working on a debut album yet or is that a way off?
“We’re just writing and recording while our creative flow is good. I guess when that slows a bit we’ll try to figure out exactly what our plans are for a complete record.”
Who else are you listening to at the moment and who or what is inspiring you musically?
“I listen to just about everything you could imagine. From old and acoustic to new and electronic. What really inspires me musically is knowing that we’re just scratching the surface of what we can do creatively.”
What does the rest of 2009 hold for you?
“Write, write, write.”
