Luke Toms
If any of you have been to see The Zutons, Mika or The Feeling, you may have managed to catch this rather strikingly moustached young man. Now with a UK tour of his own, Luke Toms is showcasing songs from his debut album, The Forever House. I managed to catch up with him in my local and favourite gig venue ever, The Louisiana, Bristol.
So let’s get the serious questions out of the way! What’s your ultimate biscuit?
It would have to be the Bourbon or the Jammy Dodger, but probably the bourbon.
How does having your own tour compare to being the support?
I much prefer having my own tour, as it feels like you have much more control over the atmosphere etc. As a support act, the people watching aren’t really there to see you, so it can be difficult – they may just want you to hurry up so that they can see the headline act.
Is there anyone who’s supported you that’s really stood out?
Yeah there was this brilliant band in Aberdeen; they’re called The Boy Lacks Patience. They are definitely worth going to see.
Your debut album is being released on 2 July; could you tell us what it’s all about?
It’s called The Forever House, and the songs take you through the journey of someone who is trying to find a place called home – something which everyone can relate to. It’s all about where you are heading and where you are coming from.
As a true dandy, do you feel at home in London?
I obviously love Cornwall and that’s my home, but I do really enjoy living in London there’s just so much to do. I also bought my own flat, and as I’m doing it up it’s definitely beginning to feel like home.
How would you describe your set for us?
It’s really an emotional rollercoaster! It starts with a bang; a real uplift which continues, until I bring it down tempo and of course right back up again.
And, what’s been the best gig you’ve ever been to?
For sound quality and the emotional experience, it would have to be Air when they played at the Eden Project.

Add to favouritesIf your house was on fire, which album would risk your life for?
That’s a tough one, as there are so many albums I’d want to keep. Can I really just have one? OK then, it would have to be Kate Bush’s first album; The Kick Inside.
And to end with another demanding question; what are guilty pleasures?
Smoking, drinking, sausage and stuffing sandwiches, goats’ milk, and lemon juice! (Not necessarily at the same time!)
