The Hot Melts
Things are getting exciting for The Hot Melts, they have a new single (Edith) coming out on 2nd March that has been getting some rave reviews and plenty of airplay and just when you think that things can’t get any better for the band it turns out that Josh Homme is a fan.
He’s asked the band to support The Eagles Of Death Metal on tour and that’s exactly what the band are doing in the next month or two. To find out about this and how they expect the single to perform I spoke to Will and Jai from the band.
You released your debut single last year, did that feel like the moment that things started to come together for you, or is it just another step along amongst many others?
Everything has been slowly coming together for a year or so now, we went out to Chicago last year to record the album and I suppose that’s when we felt like things were really kicking off, but in terms of building a fan base and people recognizing our music it’s an ongoing thing.
At the start of March you’ll be releasing your new single Edith which has been getting a lot of attention, have you as a band noticed the change in media attention this time round?
Yeah, there’s a little more media attention on this single definitely – how did you guys hear of us?
What can you tell us about the song Edith and the lyrical theme behind it?
It’s about various experiences, but the connecting theme amongst the lyrics is Will.
It’s a very instant track and sounds great on the radio, do you have any guesses as to where you think it might land chart wise?
You tell me. Hopefully number 1!
You are currently in the middle of a headline tour, how is that going so far and any tour incidents so far?
The tour’s great so far, in Brighton we met a guy called Chris from America who turned out to be McLovin’ from Superbad and hung out with him for a while. I think he’s a fan.
After that you have a very exciting support slot with Eagles Of Death Metal, it must be a dream come true to play with someone like Josh Homme?
You bet, we’re massive Queens of the Stone Age fans, isn’t everyone? We’re really excited about it.

Add to favouritesHow did the support slot come about?
Apparently they were given a choice and heard our stuff and really liked it which is pretty cool.
How will you approach playing at those shows as obviously it’s a different crowd to what you will be used to?
We’ll be playing exactly the same as we do any show – having fun and rocking out, it doesn’t matter who the crowd is, we’re anti-demographic and want everyone to like us.
Finally you have your debut album coming later in the year, what can you tell us about that and the recording process for it?
We recorded it in Chicago with a producer called Marc McClusky and spent 5 weeks out there, basically a month and a half of good fun and it comes across in the record. There are a couple of songs people won’t have heard and hopefully the fans will like it!
