Exoterik - Don't Swallow

As soon as first track The Catalyst started I knew instantly that this band were gonna be a real enjoyable listen. And I wasn’t wrong, lead vocalist Anneka has a strong gothic style to her tone souding rather like Kittie but with more speed. The Catalyst is a catchy song, good riffs throughout and probably the best song to start off the album.

Its always a refreshing feeling to listen to a band with a fresh new sound and Exoterik do this very well. The cool mix of mellow rock/metal is introduced to a more progressive rock style as the vocals are up and down rather than staying on the same level. Likewise with the guitar and drums which flow in nicely providing that overall good sound. They certainly know how to bring it all together to create a distinctive sound.

Watch You Bleed starts off with an amazing drum intro almost sounding tribal like. The song itself is once again like the others, rather mellow but speeds up gradually. I was shocked upon discovering that this band formed in 2003 and I’ve never heard of them. Although this is their first album so they must have been using that time to create this beautifully put together album. Maybe they are like Tool and spend at least 5 years on their albums, I think anytime is exceptional given that the album is worth listening to and the album as a whole is an enjoyable experience.

The keyboards on this track mix in very well with the guitar forming a nice sound.

After researching this band I was gutted to find out they’d been and gone to my local rock club The Gasworks back in July! But undoubtedly they’ll be touring again soon as their album will most likely be a huge success. Although they are similar to Lacuna Coil, they are different enough to not be slipped under the ‘more of the same’ category. I believe they will go far; their music is dark, mysterious and incredibly catchy. Don’t
