Hadouken! - Leeds University
Well this review has to start with a massive thanks to the British transport system, you can always rely on them to get you wherever you want…but late!
So second on stage but first to be seen by me were a three man band from Germany named Mitmitmit, the strangest looking band I’ve seen live. To go along with the strangest look award, the vocalist Edi gets the strangest sounding singer. To start off with Tamer (many different things) and Felix (drums) come out and started playing their first song, then after about two minuets of this Edi (vocalist) came out and the strangely unique sound came from him and the crowd were bouncing.
There was only one song that I could clearly understand and that was a cover of Saturday Night and this was the song that they finished their set with. So while interesting (in a weird way) I have no clear understanding of what the music represents.
When Hadouken! come on, the crowd which was mainly made up of 13 to 16 year olds burst into a frenzy of jumping and loud shouting at the five piece Leeds band. The band comprises of James Smith on Vocals, Alice Spooner on Synths, Daniel “Pilau” Rice on Guitar & Vocals, Christopher Purcell on Bass and Nick Rice on Drums & Samples.
The atmosphere would have been electric had the security allowed the glow sticks in, I can’t see why they didn’t but assault with a glow stick could lead to a serious injury! Singer James bounces on the stage and practically shouts the lyrics to the adoring crowd, strongest tracks of the night seemed to be those well known to the audience. Get Smashed Gate Crash which was released as a single in March 2008 but didn’t actually chart. Liquid Lives released in June 2007 which to date is the highest charting single they’ve had and reached the heights of No 36.

Add to favouritesI particularly liked That Boy That Girl, the first single they had released in February 2007. But the best received of the night would have to go to The Bounce, taken from the mini-album Not Here To Please You, for this James brought a member of the audience on stage to dance and boy did he go for it back flips and stuff, could have done with a bit of what he’d had for breakfast. Latest single release is Declaration of War which while not going down quite so well was also a good track.
Overall enjoyed the experience and would make the effort to see them again
