John Power - Happening For Love
The first solo offering from the former Cast front man John Power presents something slightly different to his Cast and The La’s days. Gone are the electric guitars but what remains is still the awesome scouse vocals of John Power and the unmistakeable guitar sound that many fans of Cast will remember.
The album is heavy with acoustic guitar sounds and John Power’s vocals really give the album a distinctive sound seldom heard in the charts these days. Tracks such as Electrify and Everyday Folk are upbeat and with a certain jaunty swagger that will have you pressing repeat on the CD player.
The title track Happening For Love should have been a single that surely would have recaptured the nation’s love for Power’s brand of music. This is the strongest track on this collection of songs. Excellent vocals and clever lyrics make this really stand out from the rest of the album.
But my favourite track is Small Farm. I love this song. Power tells a tale of someone dreaming of a peaceful country life. The evocative images of the scenic farm that the lyrics draw in your mind whilst listening to this track make you long for summers on this idyllic countryside home. Well it does for me anyway.

Add to favouritesEvery song makes you feel better and brings a smile to your face. I wish more people had bought this album. It is an undiscovered gem amongst a sea of mindless pop and ten-a-penny manufactured music.
Although this album delivers on many levels it will remain a little known CD, as it lacks a more mainstream sound. Having said that I’m glad I’ve had the pleasure to have heard it. I hope you get the chance to discover this album too.
