The Rise - The Vine, Leeds
The Vine in Leeds was the latest venue for a headline gig for up and coming Leeds band The Rise, having been off the gigging scene for a while due to frontman Andy’s broken ankle!! Well not just that, they’ve been working on new material and have been in talks about a download release, but more about that exciting news later!!
Joseph’s Well played host to their well-received gig in Feb, but I wasn’t able to make that, so was glad to see them again at The Vine.
In true testament to The Rise, this famous venue was packed to the rafters with loyal fans and, encouragingly, new faces and followers. Among the first songs in the repetoire was new one Ya Sister which I think will quickly become one of the bands anthemic trade mark grooves along with Grabbing and Stealing, Take Me Away and New Situation.
New riffs and added vocals to more established tracks meant there was something for everyone, old and new fans alike, and the more I see them, the tighter they get. Mike on drums has retained his energy and had the crowd hooked, especially during New Situation and Stand up Straight. Kirk and Jon have added new basslines and riffs respectively, and a few ad hoc jams throughout kept us well entertained. And lastly but by no means least, Andy’s strong, passionate vocals had the crowd singing and dancing along for the entirety of the set.

A download release of New Situation is potentially imminent in May and, subject to a few finer points being finalised, The Rise are looking forward to playing at Liverpool’s famous Cavern Club at the back end of April. As usual, I’ll keep you updated of all gigs and news as I hear of them.
These lads just get better and better, so keep your eyes and ears open and remember, you heard it here first!!

Doors 7.30 - 5 quid or 4 quid with a flyer. Not a bad deal for 4 bands (THE RISE, Conway Story, The Touch, The good die young).
